The miracle drug CIPRO® (Ciprofloxacin) gained nationwide attention in the wake of the 2001 anthrax scares during which the synthetic antibiotic was used to treat anthrax and other severe bacterial infections, like typhoid fever and tuberculosis. Unfortunately, recent research has shown that some individuals can develop serious medical conditions after being treated with CIPRO. Two major problems include tendon injuries and a condition called "toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN)."
The Florida CIPRO attorneys at Farah and Farah are currently offering free consultations to individuals who experienced tendon ruptures, tendonitis, or toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) after treatment with the antibiotic Cipro.
A 2003 study out of Germany showed that rats who had been given CIPRO suffered serious degeneration of tendon tissue, particularly along the Achilles tendon. Five years later, a public advocacy group sued the FDA to include warnings on CIPRO antibiotics that the drug might increase risk for tendonitis and ruptures of tendons. Researchers now believe that the fluoroquinolones in the drug may be especially risky for people who are taking corticosteroids to treat heart and lung conditions. If you're currently on CIPRO and you're experiencing inflammation or discomfort in the tendons, stop taking the drug immediately and consult your physician.
CIPRO may also be associated with a disturbing medical condition known as toxic epidermal necrolysis. This disorder, which can be life threatening, impacts the membranes of the skin and mucous, and it can lead to severe infection of the respiratory tract, rashes, swollen eyes, peeling epidermis and ulcers along the digestive tract. All CIPRO labels now include a warning for TEN (a.k.a Lyle's Syndrome).
If you or a family member has come down with TEN or with tendonitis problems as a result of taking CIPRO, you may be entitled to a significant settlement under the law.
