Let our Attorneys Help You in Osceola County
1. Trucking Accidents
When a fully loaded tractor-trailer, weighing over 80,000 pounds, collides with a passenger vehicle (at 3,000 pounds), it is almost always the motorist who suffers the greatest loss of life and health. Federal data points to speeding as a factor in 31% of large truck fatal crashes. In Florida, 263 people died in collisions with a large truck in 2009 and there were 6 fatalities in Osceola County resulting from trucking accidents.
2. Pedestrian Accidents
A pedestrian can be anyone on the sidewalk not in a motor vehicle, from a kid on a skateboard and a mother with a carriage to tourists or joggers. No matter why they are not in a car, federal statistics show that often it is a large SUV that does not see the pedestrian. That is particularly true when an SUV backs up and does not see small children in a driveway. Drinking is also found to be a major problem in traffic accidents that involve pedestrians. About one-third of pedestrian fatalities involve alcohol, either on the part of the driver or the pedestrian. Nationwide, about a dozen people die every day in a pedestrian/motor vehicle crash. Five pedestrians died in auto accidents in Osceola County in 2009.
3. Motorcycle Accidents
Almost every day we hear about a motorcyclist who is hit on the highway or at an intersection by a distracted or aggressive driver. Occasionally the injuries that result are minor, but a motorcyclist is about six times more likely than a motorist to suffer serious injuries or death when hit by a car.
It is the motorcyclist who is often the victim of a drunk driver, a distracted trucker, or hazardous road conditions. Without metal shielding him from the hazards of the road, spinal cord and head injuries can result which are often permanent. Bikers also occasionally face the hazard of defective or substandard motorcycle equipment or components that can cause riders to lose control of their bikes and suffer fatal injuries. There were 10 motorcycle deaths in Osceola County and 98 motorcycle injuries in 2009.
4. Work-Related Injuries
Injuries on the job can result from a strain of a repetitive movement that might create, for example, carpal tunnel syndrome, or from an accident involving, for example, machinery used to do a job, or a ladder used on-the-job. Florida's system of workers' compensation pays the medical bills and an average of two-thirds of what the worker was making before he was injured at work or became ill from the conditions of the job. Both insurers and employers are frequently trying to short change the injured worker and offer him or her less than they deserve. In that case, it is well-advised to seek the counsel of an experienced Florida workers' compensation attorney to make sure you receive what you are entitled to receive.
