Jet skis are very dangerous.
An 18 year old teenage woman is in critical condition at Shands-Jacksonville and her 19-year-old male companion was killed early Saturday after their personal watercraft collided with a boat on Durbin Creek.
No one on the boat was hurt. Both victims were wearing their life-vests.
A boater saw the incident and went to help bring the two out of the Julington Creek boat ramp, but the teenaged male was dead. She was airlifted to the hospital. Considering the impact, she is lucky to be alive.
“It’s a hard time right now, especially for the parents of those kids,” said Ken Johns, who was boating nearby. “It’s just heartbreaking, to tell you the truth.”
The duo were traveling in the narrow and winding waters and Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission will determine if speed or alcohol played any part in this tragic accident. We wish the young woman a speedy recovery.
