An 18-year-old died in a single-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon, around 1 p.m., September 11, in Putnam County, according to a report by Jacksonville’s Channel 4. Quoting the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) the channel says the teen, from Pomona Park, was southbound on a dirt road driving his Jeep south of County Road 308B. When the teen lost control of his Jeep on Dumbarton Lane, it hit a tree on the east side of the road which caused the Jeep to rotate counterclockwise. A fire then broke out in the vehicle and the teen was not able to get out. There is no word whether or not he was conscious. Troopers said he was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene.

It is possible that this accident was entirely preventable.
