Georgia Man Killed in Nassau County Crash

A 21-year-old man from Kings Bay, Georgia, was driving his 1986 Corvette in Nassau County in Florida on Friday night, November 5, on Piney Island Drive when he left the road and struck a tree near Florida A1A. The man’s passenger, also from Kings Bay, died at the scene of the fatal Florida car crash, reports The Florida Times-Union.

The Corvette was headed southbound on Piney Island Drive when, for an unknown reason, it left the road after crossing railroad tracks. It collided with a tree on the passenger side of the vehicle. The Florida Highway Patrol says alcohol was not the cause of this crash and both men were wearing seat belts.

The passenger died after being taken to Shands Medical Center in Jacksonville. The driver suffered minor injuries.

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of these two young men.

Distracted Driving
While we have no idea what caused this accident, Farah & Farah reminds drivers that the task of driving a motor vehicle is a visual task and anything that takes a driver’s attention and eyes away from the road should be avoided. That includes using a cell phone to text or call, reaching for something in the back seat, looking for a CD, etc. While texting should be banned while driving, Florida has yet to pass a law prohibiting it. Every year, our legislators propose a restriction on the use of cell phones while driving, and every year the proposed legislation is defeated.

If you have been involved in an automobile crash and been injured by a distracted driver, our Florida car accident attorneys would be happy to discuss your case.
