One driver fled the scene while another was seriously injured after an off-set head-on Gainesville car collision at Fred Bear Drive near Archer and Williston roads around 7:30 a.m. Monday, November 15, reports The Gainesville Sun.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a northbound motorist was reported to be speeding when he crossed the center lane, hitting the southbound vehicle in what’s called an “off-set” or off-center Florida head-on car collision.
The driver of the northbound vehicle was taken to a local hospital. He is reported to be in serious condition, while the driver of the southbound vehicle fled the scene on foot and was apprehended by the Alachua County Sheriff’s office for leaving the scene of a Florida car accident. Both drivers are reported to be residents of Gainesville and are 29 and 21-years-old. There is no more information in the article as to the cause of the Florida car crash or whether charges will be filed.
Let’s hope the injured individual recovers from this accident. Fortunately the collision was a side swipe and not a full head-on collision.
If I was a family member of those drivers involved I would want some questions answered. Was a blood test taken at the scene of the Florida car collision to determine whether drugs or alcohol were involved? A look into cell phone records for both drivers will reveal whether a cell phone was in use at the time of the car accident. Did the vehicle drive into oncoming traffic because of debris in the road, because there was another car involved, or because of a defective tire or some other faulty component?
