Fatal Auto Accidents Drop 34 Percent In Jacksonville Area

By Eddie Farah on July 23, 2008 - No comments

We’re all feeling the squeeze at the pump, but there is a little good news to report about that gloomy picture. Rising prices have apparently reduced traffic deaths around the country.

Here in Jacksonville, the Florida Highway Patrol reported that so far in the four of five metro counties there were 103 traffic fatalities, compared to 155 for the same time last year. That is a 34 percent drop.

In Nassau County the number of traffic accidents was cut in half, to eight down from 16. Duval saw 65 traffic deaths this year compared to 96 last year. St. Johns went from 28 to 18 and Clay County’s 15 traffic deaths declined to 12.

Nationally, the numbers are not so dramatic but still, a nine percent drop in auto accidents overall is quite acceptable. Some states report declines of 20 percent or more. Eight states have reported an increase in traffic fatalities.

The declines is due to simple math – fewer miles driven equals fewer accidents on the road. Most of us are better planning our trips so we get more done in one outing. That’s not a bad lesson to take away from the gloom at the gas pump.

We hope your trips are safe ones, but if not, Farah & Farah understand that injuries associated with auto accidents can wreak havoc on the lives of victims and also the lives of their family members.
