The 17-year old Clay County high school football player who was struck and killed by a train last month was doing what many people in the Black Creek area regularly do- fish from the railroad bridge.
Wesley Whiddon Jr. was killed May 14, when he could not escape the CSX train that had just rounded a corner. His two friends jumped off the train trestle and suffered minor injuries.
Now his mother is suing for wrongful death and is blaming the railroad and its senior road foreman of engines.

It was one of the most horrible trucking accidents this area can
remember.
On January 25, 2006, a tractor-trailer driver reportedly fell asleep behind the wheel and drove his trailer into a car full of Lake Butler children waiting for a school bus.
All seven children died in an inferno. They were all from the same family. And five children onboard a bus that was then hit by the car, not only witnessed the accident but were injured and taken to the hospital.

Jacksonville is recognizing a dubious distinction.
The city’s infant mortality rate tops all of Florida. Within the black community, the numbers are nearly twice that of whites, according to findings by the Jacksonville Community Council Inc.
In 2006, 130 infants died before their first birthday in Jacksonville. The mortality rate overall in the city is 9.5% with the rate for whites 7.2% and for blacks 12.7% in 2006.
“Jacksonville has the highest rate in the state,” said Helen Jackson who is the JCCI Board of Directors President. “This is not something we want to be known for.”

Nearly $193,000 has been filed against Choate Construction, Southern Pan Services and A.A. Pittman & Sons Concrete.
The companies are alleged to have failed to determine whether the six-foot structure was sound enough to support extra weight from concrete being poured on the top floor.

It was just four blogs ago where we talked about this very thing.
An adult serves minors alcohol. In this case five kids are dead and the adult is facing charges of serving alcohol to underage drinkers.
There is no evidence that alcohol played a role in causing the crash, so she is facing the lesser charges. Civil suits might address the liability issue later.
Here is the story.
Last January, five young men in an expensive car, took a fast ride on a runway in an exclusive fly-in community in Ocala, Florida before crashing and killing everyone in the car.
The fly-in community of Jumbolair Aviation Estates is the gated community where actor John Travolta lives. Early in the morning, the five young men, ages 18 to 20, left a party and piled into a 2008 BMW.
