71-year-old Leonel Garza suffered a fatal heart attack in 2001 after a month on the painkiller, Vioxx. In 2006, his widow was awarded a $32 million judgment by a Texas jury.
As often happens, caps on awards exist in Texas so the judge had to cut the award down from $25 million in punitive to $8.73 million. On Wednesday, an appeals court threw out that award too.

The mother of a teenage boy killed in a car wreck has been arrested- for causing his death while drinking and driving.
Police arrested Angela Harper.
Investigators say she had been drinking in the early morning April 18th when she drove her son and his friend’s home. Police report around 2 a.m. she drove on the ramp from Interstate 85 to I-295 in Jacksonville heading north when she lost control of her 2001 Saturn hatchback.

Jet skis are very dangerous.
An 18 year old teenage woman is in critical condition at Shands-Jacksonville and her 19-year-old male companion was killed early Saturday after their personal watercraft collided with a boat on Durbin Creek.

It almost sounds too incredible to believe.
A turkey hit the windshield of a truck in Niceville, Florida in Okaloosa County, Florida in the Panhandle.
The driver of a beer truck didn’t know what hit him when a turkey flew into his windshield. 32-year-old Daniel Milby of DeFuniak Springs had to be hospitalized after he lost control of the vehicle, jackknifed then overturned and crashed into a guardrail.

A four-vehicle wreck south of Fernandina Beach, Florida killed two and injured four others Wednesday. Police say that the wreck may have been intentional.
Just after 1:30 a pickup truck traveling north on state Road 200 crossed the median then turned south in the northbound lanes.
It struck one car head-on, then two others before it overturned and caught on fire.
The Florida Highway Patrol says it looks like the driver had time to think about what he was doing then accelerated into oncoming traffic.

Are Florida’s lawyers spending less time helping those who cannot pay?
The Florida Bar, which oversees and accredits lawyers in the state, reports that the number of hours Florida lawyers donate to the poor are on the decline, especially when you consider the growing number of lawyers that schools are churning out.
The average number of hours donated by Florida attorneys was 19.4 per years in 2003-2004, but only 17.2 in 2006-2007.

Law enforcement is fast to turn to tasers or stun guns to deliver between 20,000 and 150,000 volts of electricity to subdue agitated citizens.

No one knows why 21-year-old James Rowland drifted in his pickup trust into an oncoming lane just after midnight early Thursday morning.
The Florida Highway Patrol reports that Rowland was driving east on Normandy Boulevard in Jacksonville when he collided head on with a tractor-trailer.
Both vehicles burst into flames and Rowland was killed at the scene. The driver of the big rig and his passenger were only slightly injured but the damage to his vehicle is estimated at about $75,000.
