Georgia Supreme Court Upholds $13 Million Verdict Against Ford

It’s been seven years of legal haggling since a Clarke County, Georgia woman burned to death in her car following a rear collision.  Last Friday, the Georgia Supreme Court finally ruled in her family’s favor putting an end to stalling by the automaker.

Anne Marie Gibson died in her 1985 Mercury Grand Marquis when she was slammed by a Toyota truck.  The bolts from the trailer hitch on her car gouged into the car’s rear-mounted gas tank. The vehicle burst into flames, the passenger doors jammed and her seat dropped her back into the flames. She was then hit again when forced into oncoming traffic.   A jury awarded her family $13 million.

Parents Sue After 9-Yr-Old Allegedly Beaten on School Bus

The nine-year-old boy is both blind and autistic, so getting home on a school bus safely is especially important.  

First Student Inc. of Jacksonville, Florida was in charge of that along with two bus attendants to oversee special students.

But this child was allegedly beaten by the attendants, repeatedly pinching him which left red marks and scratches.

Now his family is suing, naming First Student Inc. and the two attendants. Their evidence- photos they took which are pretty clear.

Auto Slides Under Big Rig On I-95 in Florida

The driver of a semi truck had no idea what had just driven under the rear of his big rig.

A portion of Interstate-95 in St. Johns County, Floria was temporarily shut down early Friday morning after a car became lodged underneath a semitrailer.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 41-year-old Robert Barker, of Port St. Lucie, rear-ended a semitrailer and continued driving his Honda until it lodged under the truck’s trailer.

Bus Collides and Kills Traffic Engineer Fixing Light

It was a freak accident that killed a traffic engineer working over the streets of Jacksonville this week.

The man, 52-year-old Cesar Solomon was in a bucket working on a traffic light. 

The driver of a Jacksonville Transportation Authority bus either didn’t see the flag man or ignored him and struck the truck knocking the man out of the bucket and onto the street where he fell to his death.

Man Hits Police Cruiser in Georgia

Florida man is under arrest after he crashed his vehicle into a Georgia State Patrol deputy’s car during a police pursuit.

It happened Sunday afternoon. Theodore Thomas Wagner approached the security guard at the Bayer Corporation in Kingsland, Georgia. 

He was reportedly acting erratically and said he was being chased. A short while later he actually was being chased by deputies on I-95 after attracting enough attention.

Teen Drivers the Focus in Tallahassee

Teen drivers will likely feel the focus out of Tallahassee this legislative session.

The automobile association wants to ban teen drivers from talking on their cell phone.  Another bill would require completion of a driver education program before getting a license.

Hundreds of Teens Learn About Drinking And Driving

Despite the fact that vehicles are designed with new and improved safety features, auto accidents remain the leading cause of death among young adults.

That’s why it was great to see double the number of kids, about 900 in all, gathered Thursday in Jacksonville, Florida at a STUD Rally - Stop Teen Underage Drinking.

It looked more like a party at the Morocco Shrine Auditorium Thursday as high school kids packed the place listening to music and a serious message about the dangers of drinking and driving. 

 Mistie Merritt was driving drunk when she killed a Jacksonville mother and now she says there isn’t a day that she doesn’t feel overwhelmed with guilt. Read the rest »


Woman Sues Jacksonville Naval Hospital After Amputation

It wasn’t supposed to happen this way.  A woman goes in for a knee replacement and comes out of the Naval Hospital with an amputated leg.

Not surprisingly, she is suing the Naval Hospital Jacksonville.

June McDowell cried to local reporters when she talked about how difficult it is to get around now. Wheelchair bound, she cannot be fitted for a prosthetic leg.  She is totally dependent on her husband to get around.

Weekend Speeders Beware as FHP Cracks down on Spring Break Drivers

If you like to put the pedal to the metal you have a good chance of being caught this weekend.

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) will be operating a statewide crackdown on speeders called “Operation Safe Ride”. 

Expect to see troopers along the Interstates, the Florida Turnpike, major and minor roads pulling over those who exceed the speed limit.
